‘Hard Times Will Always Reveal True Friends’

#sevenwordstory – ‘Every girl needs a ginger best friend’

398848_10151265005267364_877770588_n If I’m creating stories about people who are special in my life, my best friend can not be missed out. Nathan has been my best friend for five years now and we have grown as people throughout our crazy friendship. I never really had very good friends throughout school and I thought college would be the same. It was not and I found the best friend I could of asked for. He is the most selfless person I know and would always put anyone else first before himself, he taught me what a best friend should be. I go months without seeing him and talking to him but I know he’s always there for me whe544057_10150586470662364_993079061_nnever I need them. He’s just a phone call away. He makes me laugh and cry like no one else knows how to and he just knows me for the kind of person I am. Being able to know what I’m thinking before I even do, shows he’s a brilliant best friend. Having Nathan in my life has improved the person I am, this has made me stronger for having him because he never judges me. Even though he has a lot of issues within himself, he will always listen to me and guide me in the best possible way he can.

‘The Desire to Write, Grows with Writing’

Throughout university, I developed an interest for creative writing as theory is what I like to do alongside photography. I’ve tried to develop my writing skills by writing essays and doing these writing challenges, hopefully this has helped with my grammar and sentence structure. Developing my writing has been a very hard task for me as I didn’t have many skills to start off with. I didn’t benefit as much as I could have from GCSEs so I ended up with bad grades but these later improved throughout college. Therefore, I didn’t have the skills in english that I wanted so it was harder for me to develop my writing skills for my theory work. After making this blog and creating personal posts about my family, I hope my writing skills  have improved as I’m trying to give myself as much experience as I can. I am doing an on-going writing task in the hope to enhance my skills within this area as I will be writing continuously.

‘First my Mother, Forever my Friend’

#fivewordstory – ‘My mum is my hero’.

Luckily, my mum has always been a massive part of my life and she has always inspired me to achieve everything I possibly can and more. From a young age, my mum has always been there forIMG_4874 me but we were not as close when I was younger. After we experiencing a lot of trauma in my family, we began to get closer because of this. Having the loss of my grandad and a failed marriage between her and my dad, she could have had a meltdown but this only made her stronger. She inspired me to be stronger in everything I do and she’s always there for me whenever I need her. As I have grown into a young adult, she has grown with me and she is stronger now than ever without even knowing. Having an influence from my mum in my life has made me a better person and hopefully stronger for having her. She’s more relatable now than ever, as I can talk to her about boys, relationships and the struggles of transiting from a teenager to a young adult. Having all these qualities makes my mum my best friend and my hero forever.

‘We are all stories in the end’

#sixwordstory – ‘Determention will get you through this’

During my life, IIMG_4983‘ve always been determined to want to achieve bigger and better things for myself. If I could guess, I would say this fire and determination came from my Grandad. From a young age, he always inspired me and he never gave up teaching me more. If he was here now, I hope he would be proud of me. Having this influence from a young age has allowed me to have many memories with him, some of them involving my art. He used to encourage me to draw pictures for him and he always said how amazing my work was, but there was always an opportunity for improvement. Having this mindset throughout my life has inspired me that I can do better and to be determined for the next best thing that comes my way. Graduating will be the greatest achievement my family could ask for and making them all proud is something I hope to do. Ensuring my Grandad is proud of me too is all I could ask for in my life. I hope university is just the beginning of my success, if not, determination will get me through this.

‘Brothers and Sisters; Separated by Distance, Joined by Love’

For as long as I can remember, my brother has always been here for me, even when my parents broke up. IMG_1314We had a lot of heartache as a family and he was always there for me. We are four years apart which was beneficial when I was in my first year of school because I had an older brother. Joe and I have always been really close and he is my best friend, he’s such a kind hearted person and would do anything for anyone. Throughout the years, we have had fights and haven’t got onIMG_4869 but the day he left for university was the worse and I’ll never forget the feeling. Nevertheless, he was only there for one year so I really got the best of both worlds because I didn’t see him too much. He really is my partner in crime and I miss him so much now I have left for university, but I hope he is very proud of my success. These two images hold a very special place in my heart as they are eighteen years apart and we are still just as close as ever.

The Second ‘Change’

From my first year at university, I’ve changed my style again and have started working within photography now as I have found this to be something I prefer. In college I always created more films than photos meaning I didn’t develop my skills as much as I could have. When I came to university, these skills were something I was determined to build, to learn everything I could about both of these methods. Having learned more now, I can separate myself from film more but I know my passion is with photography. As you can see from my portfolio, my photography has changed within the last year. This is because I’ve become more confident in my topics and am able to create professional standard photographs.

Here is some of my work from the last module in my first year;

The ‘Change’

As I have included many posts about my past work from college and university, the change of style has been noticed. For example, my film/photography styles have changed a lot as I’ve learned a lot more skills, enabling me to improve my work from college to now. My filming experience was limited from college as the course mostly concentrated on pre-production and post production. When I came to university, this changed as I had more free time to study new methods and skills. Making my films better has made my photography improve because I know the additional skills I need to improve my photographs now, whereas in college this was not a possibility. My style from college was underdeveloped but I still carried on and created productions to ensure I passed my BTECs. Now my styles completely different although my determination will always be there!
Here is some of the work from my first year of university;

‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’

Basingstoke is always going to be a place close to my heart because it’s my home!
Including a post in my blog about my home, I thought would be interesting to include because I’ve talked about it in the film tab above. I looked around Basingstoke town centre and took pictures of what I thought makes Basingstoke such a great place, whether it’s the town centre or the smaller locations within the town. These images were interesting for me to take because I’d never gone out with just my camera back in my hometown to take pictures, so I’m impress with how they turned out.

‘Journalism is an Act of Faith in the Future’

During my BTECs, there was a module called ‘Film Journalism’ where we had to create a number of video case studies and use a film to support and analysis our ideas. These videos also included a lot of useful terminology which I could use in university essays.

In this first example, the film used is Angus, thongs and perfect snogging.

The next example was a comparision of ‘Its a wonderful life’ and ‘Friends with Benefits’

‘Where Words Fail, Music Speaks’

Throughout my BTEC in college, where I studied Creative Media. I had some appearances in music videos as I was one of two females in my class. Some of my fellow classmates wanted a female lead and I was the only female who was confident on camera so I played the main role in multiple videos. This allowed me to be confident and improved my communicational skills because I was working in large groups and had to complex a project to a tight deadline.
